Anne Boleyn's Hands

35.00

The second wife of King Henry VIII and the mother of Elizabeth I, Anne Boleyn (c. 1501-1536) was the first English Queen to be publicly executed and arguably played a vital role in the English Reformation. In her, I saw many of the qualities I wanted to possess—determination, bravery, intellect, a clever wit, a free-thinking mind and the willingness to express opinions.

By dissecting her 16th-century portrait and creating an abstraction of her image, the notion of the ideal woman in this era (uneducated, fertile and submissive) is fragmented. With her profile, this on-going project is a tribute to women of the past and an homage to the women of power and influence of today and tomorrow.

This print is 8x10 and comes with a beveled white mat with a 5x7 picture opening. A sleeve protects the print.
